A/N: Most of these are derived from a gift drabble meme that I had on my primary LJ, reconstructed and cut down to hit the wc. And yeah, I fail at titles.

“Lawli…” His shadow muttered, pushing the detective back against the wall until their bodies were flush; reflections producing a single form in which one half grasped out, tugging in an attempt to conquer while the other remained perfectly still. “Shut up.”

Perhaps, if he ignored the overwhelming urge to vomit, a part of him wanted nothing more than to feel what it was to be owned by someone who wanted to devour him in every sense of the word. L relaxed, feigning submission. Though not something he was normally accustomed to, it would be quite an interesting experiment, at best.

Light wondered, upon looking at the figure, how the hell anyone ever mistook this person for L. There were clear differences, though the cosmetics used in order to obtain the façade were flawless; everything matching, down to the shadowed eyes.

“You could be him.” He lied, entranced by the small similarities: the hair, the stance, the way B stared with the pad of his thumb pressed to his bottom lip. Something in his stomach tightened, his breath catching for less than a second as he realized that L didn’t have to be dead. At least not for a little while.

It had begun shortly before he left Wammy’s. The emulation. The mannerisms. The clothing. Beyond mirrored every stitch of fabric, every shadow on the detective’s face until the untrained eye would be nearly unable to tell the two apart. And he would run the pads of his fingers over his own pale throat, eyes closed, and imagine how he would tighten those fingers had he ever the opportunity to grasp the real thing.

The mirror was cold against the palm of his hand as he stared at his—L’s— reflection, a smile widening on his face. “Mirror, mirror, Lawliet…”

L/Mello

“And that…” L pointed to a particular cluster of bright stars, “Is Sagittarius. It was first named by the Romans; derived from the Latin term for arrow: sagitta. You most likely are unable to pick it out properly without the aid of a telescope.”

“Oh.” It was all Mello could say. L knew he was a Sagittarius, which meant that he remembered his birthday, which meant that Near just might indirectly avoid his nightly ass-kicking. His brow furrowed as he wondered exactly what any of those things had to do with each other.

It didn’t matter. L remembered his birthday.

He wanted to go back to the scene of each crime, though they had long been cleared away. To know what Beyond Birthday knew, touch each thing he had touched, breathe in what it was like to be truly failed.

His steps led him to the scene of the first murder and he lingered outside. Is this what B did? Did he stand in this exact spot and contemplate his every movement with the intent of defeating L in mind? Mello hated him in that moment; more than he had previously. How could anyone do anything but absolutely worship L?

Misa/Mikami

One more letter and it will be finished. Misa’s hand wraps tightly around the pen, her manicured nails digging into her own palm. She can’t stop shaking and truthfully, she’s terrified that she even came this far. Even if she doesn’t finish it, Light will see. He’ll see and know that she was one letter away from getting rid of the only person who is nearly as loyal as she.

And then her name might be written right beneath it.

She sucks in a breath, scribbling down the final letter and leaning back in her chair, eyes wide.

Mello/L

They’re not supposed to bother L when he comes home. But Mello always sneaks in. And L never tells him to leave. Walking the few feet between himself and his mentor, he fixes the cuff of his sleeve. His shirt must look like shit. He hasn't been paying attention to details lately. Probably should have. Whatever.


When he sits on L's leg, his back is stiff and he tries to maintain his posture. But soon he shifts until he's completely in L's lap and leans back against his chest. "What are you working on?" L will probably lie. Doesn't matter.
